January Review

What a great month to start off 2017!

The bad news: I rang in the New Year with a hangover. The good news: my wonderful fiance took care of me by bringing me water and food throughout the day. It actually wasn't too awful, and I kind of enjoyed vegging out on the couch all day.

I started a new job at the very end of December, so this month I am really getting into it. The person who I took over for has moved out of state. I didn't get much time to train in person with her, so luckily she has made herself available via email for any questions or issues I have over the next few weeks. It's difficult communicating that way though, but hopefully I start catching on.

Our wedding planning is coming along nicely - we have the venue, officiant, photographer, photobooth, and DJ booked. We have picked out our colors, invitations, favors, cake, guestbook, and a few other things we have to go out any buy. In a few weeks we will be getting the dresses for the girls. It seems we've taken care of the big stuff and the rest is just details. The only stress I've experienced was when I started second guessing the favor idea! I spent hours pouring over websites looking for better ideas, and really got myself worked up over such a small detail! Luckily, my fiance talked me out of my favor searching frenzy and helped pick something fun out. Overall, it's not a very stressful experience, so I'm not sure why other women turn into such bridezillas.

I've been working really hard to clean up "my room" in the house. It's where my desk, craft table, tanks, and the big cat tree are all kept. It's pretty cluttered in there and I still have 2 or 3 boxes of junk to unpack and organize. I'd really like to get things squared away so I can start crafting again on a regular basis. I have tons of yarn and fabric just waiting to be used. Perhaps this spring I'll start up an etsy store!

That's about it for this months review - it's Super Bowl Sunday so I'll be watching for some good commercials this year!

Bottle Cap Magents - What Hasn't Worked

My fiance has been collecting beer bottle caps for quite a while. His intention was always to use them for fridge magnets. I've finally helped him get started! I sorted out all the caps by type - he definitely has over 100 bottle caps. I cleaned a small batch of them and got to work.  We found 3/4 inch ceramic magnets at Hobby Lobby and decided to use those for the bottle caps.  Our first thought was to use hot glue to secure the magnets to the caps. Unfortunately, the glue did not stick well to the metal of the cap and on a lot of them, the magnet would fall out.   Our next attempt was to use super glue - and that worked MUCH better!  We encountered another problem once we tried to stick the magnets to the fridge. The bottle caps have a small plastic seal inside them - the perfect size for the magnets to sit down into. Hello 2017

There are many people who think 2016 was an awful, horrible year. With the seemingly high number of celebrity deaths, and the great number of people disappointed in the election, many are looking forward to 2016 being over. However, I think 2016 was a great year! In March, I bought my very first, brand new car. In April, I moved in with my boyfriend. Though my boyfriend had a rough summer working late nights and weekends, we managed to go to two amazing concerts and plenty of summer fests, making it one of the most fun summers I've ever had. December was probably the best month of all - I got a new job in a different department at work and my boyfriend proposed! It was a great ending to 2016, I'm incredibly excited for 2017 and all the new adventures I'm sure are in store!

Reefkeeping Overview

I always thought it would be pretty cool to have a saltwater tank, but considered it too difficult, figuring it would take a lot of hard work and patience to have a happy salty environment. Well, about two and a half years ago I found a great deal ($100!) for a 29 gallon BioCube - an all-in-one system that came with tank, lights, pumps, sand, rocks, a couple snails/hermit crabs, a few corals and an urchin. It had been neglected for a while, was low on water, and the sand was extremely dirty. I was so nervous those first few months! When I got my first fish (two clownfish I named Lenny and Squiggy) I was so concerned about their happiness and well being, I gazed at the tank for hours making sure they looked ok and like they enjoyed their new home.
